I'm Still Alive

It's been a long time but as I trolled through a few of my other favorite blogs, I saw that I was not alone... So here I am, dark roots and all. I can't wait to be able to color my hair again. I am at 6mos now in my 2nd set. I'm not really doing much with my hair these days. Just trying to be patient with it.
This blogging thing is really a commitment that I am failing at thus far. My goal was to keep up with it and really document what was happening but I lost the momentum with the re-installation drama. I received a comment from someone the other day that prompted me to log back in and see what was going on. I have to admit that I think I am petered out with it all. Have not forgiven myself for making such a costly decision... Nuf said.

A lot has happened since my last post, one of them being that my 16 year old son Ryan, decided that he wanted to go to the same boarding school that I attended in high school. I was shocked and had to kick into gear to get things moving so that took up most of my summer along with travel and summercamp for my youngest who is 10. The school is called Pine Forge Academy and it is a Seventh Day Adventist boarding school in PA. It is one of only 4 historically black boarding high schools in the United States. I had the privilege of attending for 4 years and graduated in 1979. Now my son is following suit but he is a Junior so he will only do his last 2 years. He loves it and is having the time of his life. I miss him terribly but I know it was the right decision for him. I won't have to worry about the transition to college for he is getting a taste of dorm life now along with time management and all that goes along with being responsible. The pics were taken over the Labor Day Weekned which is when the school celebrates it's annual Alumni Weekend. I have several other schoolmates who now have kids there as well so we were just hanging out in Ryan's dorm room. It was my girlfriend's 30 year reunion(the one with the turban) for her class so we had a ball all weekend seeing old friends. I love the fact that our children are together up there just as we were back in the day. It's a wonderful legacy to give to them.

On another note, I have gotten back into one of my favorite things to do and that is reading. I read a book this summer called "The Shack" by William P. Young and it was awesome. I recommend it highly. You can log on the http://www.theshackbook.com/ to read more about it. It truly changed my perspective on a lot of things and reinforced the fact that we cannot put God in a box. It is fiction, a novel about a man who's youngest child was abducted and murdered on a camping trip. (sounds horrible, I know) 3 years after her abduction, he receives a letter asking him to come back to the shack where her belongings were found and the rest of the story is about his encounter with God there. Deep book, easy read and life changing.
I guess I can summarize by saying that I will take a stab at this again. We can get so caught up in life that things go by the wayside. Be patient with me!

Hey there,
Great post. I'm glad that you decided to continue blogging. Your locks looks absolutely beautiful. I'm glad that your son is having fun at Pine Forge Academy. I have heard their choir before and they are just amazing. Will your son be joining the choir? I am also SDA but I'm in Southern California. I think there is one other person at my church with Sisterlocks. Hers are beautiful also. I am glad that you read the book, "The Shack". I have not read the book as yet, however, I heard an interview with the author on Homeword.com (the absolute best ministry for marriages and families) within the last couple of days. I was quite impressed with the fact that he was so honest about his life in the interview. Just think, that he only wrote this book for his kids as a gift and that even though it was written in fiction that it was based in the reality of his life. God really has the power to change our circumstance. I can't wait to read this book, along with a ton of other ones that I have on my list. Looking forward to reading more of your blog.

Thanx for your comments everyone. I have felt so out of the loop. Everyone is always so kind on these blogs. I'm glad to be back in the swing.
Luvlockd- I cannot access your blog for some reason. I see you tagged me so I will post soon as I have been tagged before.
Naturalnicky- I commented on your blog that for a newbee is so informative with your utube videos and all. You have left me in the dust for I am not computer saavy. I need my DH for everything. Ryan is not in the choir, he is in Creative Arts. He is in a smaller choir that the students formed called the Singspiration Choir. PF streams live on friday nites and Sabbath now so we can see what they are doing. He is having a ball.
Keep blogging everybody.

Guess what! I am reading "The Shack" right now and it is AMAZING!! I couldn't put the book down when I started and I plan on finishing it today! My thoughts about God, religion and the institution etc. have been validated for me through this book and what has been revealed to me. Even though this book is fiction, I can see a lot of truth shared through each character and I feel like I have an even fresher perspective about the character of Jesus and God's attributes. Everyone, it's a must read!!!

Well said Dewdrop! I have bought several copies from Costco ($8.19) and I am literally giving them away to people that the Lord has impressed me to. Gave 2 away this week. I am asking them to read it and then pass it on to who they are impressed to give it to as well. We get so caught up in religiosity, tradition and doctrine that we miss the mark. God is so real and he is working for our good at all times. I'm so glad to hear that others are reading it as well. It changed a lot of things for me are far as my thinking!

Hello
Your blog was one of the ones that I read when I was doing research on getting sister locks. I must say you are strong to stick in there with the transitiong of your hair, not once but twice. Your right God is working it out for our good in his time, not ours, God bless! Best wishes to your son Ryan as he is on a journey as well.

Wendi, first of all thanks for dropping by my blog and your kind words. Congrats on your son following in your footsteps at the boarding school. That is indeed a wonderful legacy for him and for you. I know that he will benefit greatly from his experience. Kudos to you for adding to the ranks of responsible, young black men and kudos to your son, for following in your footsteps and making a wise, life changing decision. Your locks are looking good and I do understand about the gray at the temple and hairline which is why I color. I'm always hesitant to recommend things to people about their locks, but I can tell you that the rinse I'm using is very, very gentle. It washes out within the first wash (which is sometimes a drag, but reinforces how gentle it is.) The thing I like about it and why I think it would be safe for your locks is that it is a leave in rinse. After you wash your hair. You apply the rinse and it dries in your hair. Sounds odd, I know, but it works. Why don't you just use some on your temple and hairline - that's what I do. I don't saturate my whole head since my ends still have color like yours. Sorry to leave such a long post, but I didn't have an email address for you. If you want to discuss further, hit me up on my email. Much love to you and your son...Blaq

By the way, I completely understand about finding time to blog. I've been at it for 3 years and with a new husband, it's hard to find the time.

Hey Wendi,

I've been so busy, I haven't really had time to respond to your comment. It's so good to see your son being so happy with following in your footsteps. As I'm sure you know, they are their own people and want what they want no matter how far from your desires that could be.

So happy to hear from you too. I'm glad to see you're back in business... don't leave us for so long ever again!

I want color so much, and I'm very afraid to dye. Any insight?
